In 1988's Batman #427, Todd's mother betrayed him to the Joker, who beat the Boy Wonder within an inch of his life. ![]() In the classic Batman story "A Death in the Family," by Starlin, Jim Aparo and Mike DeCarlo, DC put the fate of the character in the hands of the readers. However, Jason never quite captured the imagination of readers like the first Boy Wonder did, especially at a time when sidekicks were no longer commonplace in superhero comics.įamously, writer Jim Starlin wanted to pull the plug on Robin for ages before he eventually got his wish. Over time, DC attempted to give Todd his own personality and quirks, especially in the wake of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Instead of cementing Todd as his own unique hero, DC initially treated him as a cut-and-paste replacement for Grayson, dying his red hair black and dressing him in the same uniform. ![]()
